Morning departure from your hotel in Marrakech. The first part of our journey will be across the High Atlas Mountains. We will be traveling very highly scenic mountains road of Tizi Tichka that offers one kind of views of the mountains snow coated peaks, green valleys where you see local Berber women washing clothes in rivers and many mud brick Berber villages merging into the mountains. The road will take us to the city of Ouarzazate that connects the desert road to Marrakech.
From Ouarzazate we set onto road of Thousand Kasbah passing the palm date oasis of SKoura and valley of Roses that smells so good at the end of April beginning of May. We will end our day in the lovely gorge of Dades.
This morning we set onto the desert adventure. At first we will visit another highly spectacular gorge of Todra. The walls of the gorge are 300 meters high and many local Berber people can often been seen in the gorge with their herds. Then we follow the road to Merzouga, the gateway to the desert. Upon arrival to Merzouga the apricot swelling sand dunes that spread as far as eye can see are magnificient place to visit, highlight for many on their visit to Morocco. Here we saddle our camels and trek during beautiful sunset this region of colored fine sand. Here possibility to either overnight in tents in the oasis of the desert or return back to hotel that is built on the outskirts of the desert
Today we will be traveling along the Sahro volcanic mountains full of jumble peaks and gorges. The road is lined by many small village. The scenery will slowly changed as we start approaching the first date palm trees of the Draa Valley. This is the longest river valley in Morocco important for life of the local people brining them water and ability to plant vegetables and fruits. We will spend the night in lovely town in Agdz right in the Draa Valley.
Today it will be short drive to Ouarzazate from where the nearby Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou is located. This amazing Ksour and probably most visited in Morocco was an inspiration to many movie makers. Well known movies such as Gladiator, Lawrence of Arabia, Jewel of Nile were partially filmed here. We recommend to take short walk in the streets of the Kasbah and breath in the old times. Then it will be time to cross the High Atlas Mountains back to Marrakech.
