River tubes are a thrilling and adrenalin adding to descend rivers in Morocco.
The Ourika Valley in the Atlas Mountains, located about 1 hour from Marrakech, is a great place to enjoy river tubing.
The Experience: Not Your Typical Float
Ourika tubing is an "active" adventure. You aren't just drifting; you are navigating a Class 2 to 3 river.
The Route: Most trips cover about 6 kilometers of the Ourika River, starting near Oulmes.
The Thrills: You’ll bounce through "boulder gardens," navigate stopper waves, and handle sudden drops. It is a technical run that requires you to actively steer your tube to stay upright (though falling out is half the fun).
The Gear: Because the water comes directly from the snow-capped Atlas peaks, it is bracingly cold. Operators provide full gear, including thick wetsuits, booties, life jackets, and helmets.
When to Go: A Narrow Window
Tubing is strictly a seasonal activity. It depends entirely on the snowmelt from the mountains to provide enough volume for the rapids.
Peak Season: Early March to mid-May.
Daily Runs: During the season, tours typically depart Marrakech twice daily (morning and afternoon).
Who Can Participate?
Age Limit: Most operators require participants to be at least 16 years old due to the physical nature of the rapids.
Fitness: You don't need to be a pro, but you should be comfortable in moving water and have a decent level of physical coordination.
Why Choose Tubing Over Rafting?
While white-water rafting is also available in the Ourika, tubing offers a more "solo" connection to the river. In a raft, you are part of a team; in a tube, every wave and every rock is your individual challenge. It’s a much lower-to-the-water perspective that makes even small rapids feel like giant adventures.
Program:
We will pick you up in the morning from your hotel/riad and head into the green valley of the Ourika.
The famous gateway for many Moroccans, especially in the summer months, to get away from the heat and crowded streets of Marrakech.
In the Ourika Valley, you will be trained by a qualified and experienced instructor before getting on the river. After you are properly prepared, we will then head downstream running a continuous stretch of class 2 and 3 rapids.
We provide a transfer back to Marrakech late afternoon.
