Day 1: Fes – Midelt – Merzouga
Early morning pickup from your accommodation in Fes, as today is the longest travel day of the trip. We will traverse a variety of incredible landscapes. First, we pass through the impressive cedar-forested hills of Azrou, where we may see Barbary apes. We then continue across the Middle Atlas Mountains, where it is possible to encounter nomads traveling with their herds.
The scenery changes again as we approach the palm oasis of the Ziz Valley, lined with countless palm trees stretching all the way to Erfoud, the gateway to the desert. From here, it is approximately a one-hour drive to Merzouga, home to Morocco’s famous Erg Chebbi dunes.
Upon arrival, we exchange our vehicle for camels and trek into the desert for about two hours at sunset. Overnight in desert tents. (B, D)
Day 2: Merzouga – Todra Gorge – Dades Gorge
In the morning, we return to Merzouga by camel to enjoy breakfast and a shower before departure. Today’s journey takes us to Todra Gorge, the highest oasis in Morocco, where the canyon walls rise to 300 meters and narrow to just 20 meters apart.
After our visit, we continued to the equally spectacular yet very different Dades Gorge. Along the way, we pass the unusual rock formations of the Tamnalt Hills before reaching our hotel in the Dades Gorge. (B, D)
Day 3: Dades Gorge – Ait Ben Haddou – Marrakech
Another adventurous day awaits as we travel toward Marrakech. We pass through the Rose Valley and the Skoura Oasis on our way to Ouarzazate and Ait Ben Haddou. Here, we visit the well-known kasbah, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, renowned for its beauty and historical significance.
After exploring the site, we cross the High Atlas Mountains on a dramatic drive offering splendid views before arriving in Marrakech.
