Day 2: Casablanca – Larache – Asilah – Tangier
This morning, we head out to visit the Great Mosque of Hassan II, one of the largest mosques in the world. We then proceed to the Corniche, an Atlantic boardwalk, for a short stroll before heading north along the Atlantic Ocean. The coastline is very picturesque, and we will make several stops along the way. Among them are the two lovely towns of Larache and the fortified Portuguese city of Asilah. Afterward, it is a short drive to Tangier. (B)
Day 3: Tangier – Chefchaouen
In the morning, we have some time to visit the medina of Tangier and then head to see the two famous caves of Cap Spartel and Hercules, where we can view the Atlantic Ocean meeting the Mediterranean Sea. After our visit, we followed the road through the Rif Mountains to Chefchaouen. (B)
Day 4: Chefchaouen – Volubilis – Fes
In the morning, you have time to explore Chefchaouen on your own. Stroll through the blue and whitewashed houses and souks. After lunch, we head to the Roman ruin site of Volubilis. Once home to nearly 20,000 people during the Roman occupation, many of its structures and mosaics are still intact. We then transfer to Fes. (B)
Day 5: Fes
Fes remains much the same as it was in medieval times, with very little having changed over the centuries. Let your guide take you on a guided walking tour through the old city. Explore the historical sites and souks, known for their artisans and traditional crafts. (B)
Day 6: Fes – Sefrou – Immouzer Kandar – Azrou – Meknes
Depart from Fes after breakfast and head to the old Jewish settlement of Sefrou, which even predates the origins of Fes. You will have the opportunity to visit local people, many of whom live in caves scattered throughout the region. From Sefrou, continue through Immouzer Kandar, Morocco’s scenic lake country. In the afternoon, we arrive at the Berber village of Azrou, surrounded by cedar forests and inhabited by macaque monkeys known as Barbary apes. This quiet village is an ideal stop for a short break before heading to Meknes. (B)
Day 7: Meknes – Rabat
Spend most of the day in the medina of Meknes, walking through the winding streets and stopping at key sites such as the marble gate of Bab Mansour and the tomb of Moulay Ismail, one of the first sultans of the Alaouite dynasty. Later in the day, we travel to Rabat, where we visit the Hassan Tower and the Mausoleum of Mohammed V. If time permits, we can explore the vast complex of the Kasbah of the Udayas. (B)
