Day 1: Marrakech – Ouarzazate – Dades Gorge

Morning departure from your hotel in Marrakech. The first part of our journey will be across the High Atlas Mountains. We will be traveling along the highly scenic mountain road of Tizi Tichka, which offers unique views of snow-capped peaks, green valleys where local Berber women wash clothes in rivers, and many mud-brick Berber villages blending into the mountains. The road takes us to the city of Ouarzazate, which connects the desert routes to Marrakech.

From Ouarzazate, we continue along the Road of a Thousand Kasbahs, passing the palm date oasis of Skoura and the Valley of Roses, which smells wonderful at the end of April and the beginning of May. We end our day in the lovely Dades Gorge.

Day 2: Dades Gorge – Todra Gorge – Merzouga

This morning, we begin our desert adventure. First, we visit the spectacular Todra Gorge, where the walls rise to 300 meters high, and local Berber people can often be seen with their herds. We then follow the road to Merzouga, the gateway to the desert.

Upon arrival, the apricot-colored dunes stretch as far as the eye can see, making this a magnificent highlight for many visitors to Morocco. Here we saddle our camels and trek into the desert during a beautiful sunset. There is the possibility to overnight in tents in a desert oasis or return to a hotel built on the outskirts of the desert.

Day 3: Merzouga – Alnif – Nkob – Agdz

Today we travel along the volcanic mountains of the Saghro, full of jumbled peaks and gorges. The road is lined with many small villages, and the scenery slowly changes as we approach the first date palm trees of the Draa Valley. This is the longest river valley in Morocco and is vital to local life, providing water and the ability to grow vegetables and fruits. We spend the night in the lovely town of Agdz, right in the heart of the Draa Valley.

Day 4: Agdz – Ait Ben Haddou – Marrakech

Today, it is a short drive to Ouarzazate, from where the nearby Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou is located. This amazing ksar, one of the most visited in Morocco, has inspired many filmmakers. Well-known movies such as Gladiator, Lawrence of Arabia, and The Jewel of the Nile were partially filmed here. We recommend taking a short walk through the streets of the kasbah and breathing in the atmosphere of ancient times. Afterwards, we cross the High Atlas Mountains on our return to Marrakech.
