Awake in the Berber town of Asni and head to Imlil, a rural village located at the foot of Mount Toubkal, the highest peak in North Africa. From there, stop briefly in the Ouirgane Valley before continuing to Tin Mal, the site of a former royal treasury mosque built during the Almohad Dynasty in the 12th century. It is one of the few mosques that non-Muslims can enter. End the day with a journey through the Tizi Test Pass, the second-highest road pass in the Atlas Mountains, on your way to Taliouine. (B, D)

Morning departure from the saffron capital of Taliouline to the rustic village of Tin Fat, then onward to one of the south’s most important crossroads, the town of Taznakht.
