Day 1: Marrakech

Welcome to Morocco with a transfer to your riad.

Day 2: Marrakech – Essaouira

Morning departure from Marrakech heading west to Essaouira, a coastal town on the Atlantic Ocean. The city is very relaxed and has long been an inspiration to many musicians and artists. Sightsee the city on your own, walking through quiet streets lined with blue-trimmed white buildings, sidewalk cafés, and Portuguese ramparts. You may also enjoy a walk on the beach or take a camel ride along the shore. (B)

Day 3: Essaouira – Safi – Oualidia

Today, we depart from Essaouira for Safi, another town with a strong Portuguese influence and well-known for having the oldest pottery-making houses in Morocco. We then continue north to Oualidia, a town famous for its oysters and beautiful lagoon. Overnight in Oualidia. (B)

Day 4: Oualidia – El Jadida – Casablanca – Rabat

Departure from Oualidia along Cap Beddouza, offering stunning seaside views of cliffs and the Atlantic Ocean. Upon arrival in El Jadida, visit the famous underground cisterns, which were once gunpowder magazines and are now flooded by seawater. These cisterns were used by Orson Welles in his film version of Othello. We then make a short drive to Casablanca to visit the Great Mosque of Hassan II, one of the largest mosques in the world, before continuing on to Rabat. (B)

Day 5: Rabat – Chefchaouen

This morning, enjoy a tour of Rabat. On the outskirts of the city, visit the Necropolis of Chellah, known for its ancient and medieval ruins. Other highlights include the unfinished Hassan Tower and the Mausoleum of Mohammed V. Later, transfer to Chefchaouen. (B)

Day 6: Chefchaouen

Spanish and Portuguese influences are deeply felt here, especially in the many shades of “Portuguese blue” that color much of the town. Highlights include visiting the mountain spring that supplies the city’s fresh water, strolling through the beautifully restored 16th-century Kasbah, and free time to explore the medina on your own. (B)

Day 7: Chefchaouen – Volubilis / Moulay Idriss – Meknes – Fes

Depart Chefchaouen and head to the ruins of the Roman outpost of Volubilis. Once the seat of Roman provincial authority for centuries, the site remained inhabited until the 17th century, when an earthquake rendered it uninhabitable.

Many mosaics and structures from its Roman days remain remarkably intact. Continue to nearby Meknes, home to a grand palace built by Sultan Moulay Ismail in the 12th century. Visit Bab Mansour, the impressive city gate constructed using marble from Volubilis, and spend time exploring the medina before continuing to Fes. (B)

Day 8: Fes

Spend a full day exploring the oldest of Morocco’s Imperial Cities. Fes is home to the largest medina in Morocco. Your walking tour begins at the beautiful Bab Boujloud and winds through the UNESCO World Heritage-listed medina. Visit artisan souks, the Al-Attarine Medersa, the Karaouyine Mosque, the Jewish quarter known as the Mellah, and the main entrance of the Royal Palace. End the day at the tombs of the Merinid Kings, overlooking the city. (B)

Day 9: Fes – Azrou – Beni Mellal

Depart Fes after breakfast and begin your journey toward the Berber village of Azrou, surrounded by cedar-forested hillsides. Today’s drive follows scenic mountain roads, and you may be lucky enough to spot Barbary apes, which inhabit this region. Continue onward to Beni Mellal. (B)

Day 10: Beni Mellal – Cascades d’Ouzoud – Marrakech

After breakfast, continue into the High Atlas Mountains to visit the beautiful Cascades d’Ouzoud, the highest waterfalls in North Africa. Enjoy a walk through olive groves surrounding the falls. Later, depart for Marrakech, the heart of southern Morocco. As the sun sets, the city’s red adobe walls glow, giving Marrakech its famous nickname, the “Red City.” (B)

Day 11: Marrakech

After breakfast, enjoy a guided walking tour of Marrakech. Visit major highlights including the Koutoubia Mosque, the Saadian Tombs, the Ali Ben Youssef Medersa, the Bahia Palace, and more. (B)
