Your driver meets you at the ferry terminal in Tangier and head across the Riff Mountains to the most medieval of the Imperial Cities of Morocco, Fes. (B)
Explore the city on a guided walking tour. We will visit the heart of the medina, its sights, crafts. We will breath and get transfer into the past. Fez has changed very little since the old times, the donkey alleyways, the significants of craft and trade and many religious monuments get your transformed. (B)
Day tour to the nerby Roman ruin sigh of Volubis. These ruins dated from 27 BC where once the capital of the Mauretania Kingdom. Walk along the ruins and discovery some amazing mosaic work. Then we follow the road to Meknes, the Moulay Ismail Imperial City. Walk along the historical parts of the city. Possible overnight in Meknes or return to Fes. (B)
Travel south travels down to Merzouga in the Sahara Desert. The scenery will cross today will be changing all the time. At first we pass the cedar forest of Azrou where we look for Barbary Apes. Then we journey to the Middle Atlas Mountains and to the Valley of Ziz with miles of palm trees and high cliffs - Grand Canyon of Morocco - as you approach Erfoud and Rissani, gateways to the desert. Arrive in time for the sunset with bouncing rays off the Sand dunes. (B,D)
Here in the sand dunes in Merzouga enjoy the panoramic scene of black volcanic rock on the hamad or plains, the bright blue sky, the green palm trees, white salt beds, mirages of water, golden shifting sand dunes. Visit Rissani and small villages during the day. A camel excursion overnight with campfire dinner is included. (B)
Return on the camels back to Merzouga to shower before your departure. Today travel through small villages and oases. We visit the Todra Gorge with perhaps some short hike. Then we follow the road passing the Rose Valley and Skoura Oasis to Ouarzazate. (B,D)
Today it is short drive to Ksar of Ait Ben haddou that is so worth the visit. Walk in the streets of the old Ksour and imagine how busy it once has been during the old caravan routes. Then it will be time to cross the Highest peaks of the Atlas over dramatic drive to Marrakech. (B)
Your second Imperial City of Morocco and The Pearl of the South. Visit the Arabic palaces and old Koran school for a taste of culture and history. Visit the Souk where many guild artisans can be watched as they work. Beautiful tapestry and fabrics and leather. Djemna el Fna with Berber musicians, snake charmers, fortunetellers, snake charmers, fire-eaters, storytellers is a must. (B)
